‘The Bachelor’ just had one of its most controversial endings ever and fans are hating on Arie
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Monday’s “Bachelor” finale.
Part one of “The Bachelor” finale aired Monday night, and boy was it a doozy.
ABC promised the conclusion of Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s season would be controversial and it’s definitely going to go down as one of the most-talked about finales in the show’s history.
During Monday’s finale, Arie proposed to Becca K. and sent Lauren B. home upset and confused.
Arie told Lauren he had made his final decision earlier that morning. He didn’t have a really good answer for why he was sending her off. The two even exchanged a final “I love you” before parting ways.
His hesitation hinted that this wasn’t a clear-cut finale.
“All I wanted to do was tell Lauren that I love her but instead im saying goodbye,” Arie said after she drove off.
Arie calls his engagement with Becca off
Weeks after the engagement, Arie visited with Becca to tell her he still had feelings for Lauren. He told Becca he would go to bed and wake up thinking of her.
“I felt like the more I was hanging out with you the more I was losing the chance of reconciling with her,” Arie told a shocked Becca. “We left Peru and I didn’t want to be as honest with you about how conflicted I was.”
“I feel an immense amount of guilt. It’s not fair for her [Becca] to be in a relationship where someone is half in,” Arie told an ABC camera. “I told Becca I would choose her every day and it kills me that I’m going back on that but I have to follow my heart. Just thinking about a possibility with Lauren is making me feel i have to risk it all.”
If you’ve been following spoilers and rumors throughout the season, you may not have been truly surprised, but many viewers still couldn’t believe it.
Most were upset with Arie.
After leaving, Arie then returned to try and speak with Becca more, but she made it clear that they had nothing more to say to one another.
It took Becca multiple times of telling him to get out for him to finally leave her to herself. Bachelor Nation couldn’t understand why he lingered around instead of giving Becca space to process.
Bachelor Nation hasn’t seen something an ending this controversial since Jason Mesnick changed his mind in 2009. After choosing Melissa Rycroft on season 13’s finale, he then backtracked on his decision and chose runner-up Molly Malaney. The two recently celebrated eight years of marriage.
Tuesday night’s “The Bachelor” will show Arie reunite with both Becca and Lauren.
What will happen?
According to “Bachelor” guru Reality Steve, Arie was spotted filming with an ABC crew at Lauren’s family home in Virginia in January and have been seeing each other since.
We’ll have to wait until Tuesday’s end to season 22 to see where Arie winds up.
Monday's "Bachelor" finale finally showed Arie propose, but his engagement didn't go off without a major hitch.

The reality TV couple’s wedding ceremony was officiated by franchise host Chris Harrison.
Bachelor couple Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Lauren Burnham are now husband and wife. Less than a year after announcing their engagement on season 22 of ABC’s hit dating reality series, the pair tied the knot on Saturday at Maui’s Haiku Mill in a wedding ceremony officiated by host Chris Harrison.
Luyendyk, 37, and Burnham, 27 — who wore a low-cut gown with sparkling floral embellishments — exchanged vows in front of 100 guests, including familiar Bachelor faces like Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici. Prominent Bachelor producers Bennett Graebner, Megan Firestone and Elan Gale — the latter who recently left the series to pursue other projects — were also in attendance.
“These two are married!! To witness this was an honor,” Firestone wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo from the wedding. “Congrats @ariejr& @laureneburnham. Beautiful wedding. Beautiful couple. Beautiful family to be!! Tonight was special in so many ways. I love you both and newbie on the way! #Laurie #HaikuMill”
Harrison was equally thrilled about being part of Luyendyk and Burnham’s big day. “It was an incredible wedding week. My blessings and prayers to Mr & Mrs Luyendyk and baby Luyendyk on the way,” the TV personality captioned a photo of himself posing with the newlyweds. “For now it’s Aloha!”
Harrison added that after the wedding, he is now “back to helping” current Bachelor lead Colton Underwood “find love” on season 23.
