texas lottery four numbers matched

Odds and Prizes

Each one of the eight different Texas lottery draw games has their own set of prizes and odds for every tier you can win a payout in. Choose the game you are playing below to have a look at the prizes available and the odds of winning those prizes.

Lotto Texas

To win a prize, at least three of the numbers you select must match the winning numbers. The value of the prizes increases as you match more numbers – if you match all six you win the jackpot. Each time there isn’t a winner of the top prize, it rolls over to the following drawing.

The table below shows the four different ways to win and the odds of winning, along with the prize for each category:

Numbers Matched Odds of Winning Percentage of Prize Fund Prize
6 1 in 25,827,165 80.94% Jackpot
5 1 in 89,678 4.46% Estimated $2,000
4 1 in 1,526 6.56% Estimated $50
3 1 in 75 8.04% Estimated $3
The overall odds of winning a Lotto Texas prize are 1 in 71.1

Lotto Texas Extra!

To play Lotto Texas Extra! you just need to select the option on your playslip and pay an additional $1 per line. If you play Extra! any prizes you win apart from the jackpot will be boosted beyond their base value. What’s more, you win $2 if you match two numbers, a prize that is only available if you opt in to Extra!

The jackpot is not increased if you play Extra! The table below shows how your payout will be boosted if you play Extra! and win:

Numbers Matched Odds of Winning
6 Jackpot
5 Base Game Prize + $10,000
4 Base Game Prize + $100
3 Base Game Prize + $10
2 $2 (Guaranteed)
The overall odds of winning a Lotto Texas prize with Extra! are 1 in 7.9

Two Step

There are seven different ways to win Texas Two Step prizes. You win the jackpot if you match all four main numbers plus the Bonus Ball. If there are no winners of the jackpot, it rolls over to the following drawing, meaning that it can often grow from its base amount of $200,000 into millions of dollars.

The bottom two prizes are fixed amounts, while the other payouts are pari-mutuel so they vary from draw to draw depending on how many tickets are sold and how many winners there are. All prizes, including the jackpot, are paid in a lump sum payment so there is no option to receive an annuity.

The following table shows all the ways to win and their respective payouts, as well as the odds of winning.

Numbers Matched Odds of Winning Prize
4 + Bonus Ball 1 in 1,832,600 Jackpot
4 1 in 53,900 Estimated $1,501
3 + Bonus Ball 1 in 14,779 Estimated $50
3 1 in 435 Estimated $20
2 + Bonus Ball 1 in 657 Estimated $20
1 + Bonus Ball 1 in 102 $7
0 + Bonus Ball 1 in 58 $5
The overall odds of winning a prize on Texas Two Step are 1 in 32.4

Cash Five

You win prizes by matching the numbers you select to the winning numbers. You only have to match two numbers to win a free Cash Five Quick Pick for a future draw and there are larger fixed prizes for matching three or more numbers. The jackpot is fixed at $25,000 and does not roll over, so every player that matches five numbers will receive this amount.

However, the maximum that can be paid out to jackpot winners in a single draw is $75,000. That means if there are four or more jackpot winners in the same draw, each will receive less than the advertised $25,000. The $75,000 will instead be shared equally between all jackpot winners.

The table below shows all the prizes available in Texas Cash Five and the odds of winning each one:

Numbers Matched Odds of Winning Prize
5 1 in 324,632 $25,000
4 1 in 2,164 $350
3 1 in 75 $15
2 1 in 8 Free Quick Pick
The overall odds of winning a prize on Cash Five are 1 in 7.2

Pick 3

The tables below show what you can win for each play type and wager amount in Pick 3, as well as the Fireball prizes on offer for each.

Payouts for Exact Plays

The odds and payouts for an Exact play stay the same in the base game, regardless of which numbers you pick, as every three-digit combination has the same chance of being drawn. Fireball odds and prize amounts differ, however, depending on whether your combination includes any repeated numbers.

Base Prizes Fireball Prizes
Play Type Odds Prizes- $0.50 Play Prizes- $1 Play Winning Combinations Odds Prizes- $1 Play Prizes- $2 Play
3 different numbers 1 in 1,000 $250 $500 1 Win 1 in 333 $90 $180
2 like numbers 1 in 1,000 $250 $500 2 Wins 1 in 10,000 $180 $360
1 Win 1 in 357 $90 $180
3 like numbers 1 in 1,000 $250 $500 3 Wins 1 in 10,000 $270 $540
1 Win 1 in 370 $90 $180

Payouts for Any Plays

In the base game, a 3-way Any play is harder to hit than a 6-way so it pays out more. With a 3-way play you also have the chance to win three Fireball prizes with the same combination.

Base Prizes Fireball Prizes
Play Type Odds Prizes- $0.50 Play Prizes- $1 Play Winning Combinations Odds Prizes- $1 Play Prizes- $2 Play
3-WAY – 2 like numbers 1 in 333 $80 $160 3 Wins 1 in 10,000 $90 $780
2 Wins 1 in 1,667 $60 $120
1 Win 1 in 133 $30 $60
6-WAY – 3 different numbers 1 in 167 $40 $80 2 Wins 1 in 556 $30 $60
1 Win 1 in 69 $15 $30

Payouts for Exact/Any Plays

An Exact/Any play costs more as it combines two types of play, but it offers big returns and many different ways to win. The prize amounts in the table below are based on a $0.50 play.

Base Prizes Fireball Prizes
Play Type Odds Prizes- Any Play Prizes- Exact Play Wins- Any Play Wins- Exact Play Odds Prizes
3-WAY – 2 like numbers 1 in 333 $80 $330 ($250+$80) 2 Wins 2 Wins 1 in 10,000 $240
3 Wins 1 Win 1 in 10,000 $180
2 Wins 1 Win 1 in 5,000 $150
2 Wins 0 Wins 1 in 3,333 $60
1 Win 1 Win 1 in 400 $120
1 Win 0 Wins 1 in 200 $30
6-WAY – 3 different numbers 1 in 167 $40 $290 ($250+$40) 2 Wins 1 Win 1 in 1,667 $120
1 Win 1 Win 1 in 417 $105
2 Wins 0 Wins 1 in 883 $30
1 Win 0 Wins 1 in 83 $15

Payouts for Combo Plays

A Combo play offers the biggest potential prizes of any Pick 3 play type, particularly if you opt in to Fireball. In the base game, the prizes are the same as those for an Exact play but the odds of hitting one of them are much better.

Base Prizes Fireball Prizes
Play Type Odds Prizes- $0.50 Play* Prizes- $1 Play* Winning Combinations Odds Prizes- $1 Play Prizes- $2 Play
3-WAY – 2 like numbers 1 in 333 $250 $500 3 Wins 1 in 10,000 $270 $540
2 Wins 1 in 10,000 $180 $360
1 Win 1 in 5,000 $90 $180
6-WAY – 3 different numbers 1 in 167 $250 $500 2 Wins 1 in 1,667 $180 $360
1 Win 1 in 417 $90 $180

For Combo plays, you pay for each Exact combination within your chosen numbers. A 3-way, $0.50 Combo play, for example, would cost $1.50 as you would play three different combinations. Similarly, a 6-way, $1 Combo play would cost $6, as you would play six different combinations.

Daily 4

In Daily 4, how much you win depends on the amount you wager and the play type you choose. The tables below show the possible payouts for each of the different plays, including the Fireball prizes.

Payouts for Straight Plays

Unlike other play types, the payouts for Straight plays stay the same in the base game regardless of which numbers you pick, as there is an equal chance of any single four-digit combination being drawn as the winner. This differs when it comes to the Fireball prizes, as the odds change depending on whether there are any repeating numbers in your chosen combination.

Base Prizes Fireball Prizes
Play Type Odds Prizes- $0.50 Play Prizes- $1 Play Winning Combinations Odds Prizes- $1 Play Prizes- $2 Play

1 Win 1 in 2,632 $675 $1,350

Payouts for Box Plays

The odds of winning and the payouts for Box plays vary depending on the particular combination of numbers you pick. For example, a 24-way Box (a combination of four different numbers) is more likely to win than a 4-way Box (three numbers the same plus one other), so the payouts are scaled accordingly.

Base Prizes Fireball Prizes
Play Type Odds Prizes- $0.50 Play Prizes- $1 Play Winning Combinations Odds Prizes- $1 Play Prizes- $2 Play
4-Way 1 in 2,500 $600 $1,200 4 Wins 1 in 100,000 $680 $1,360

24-Way 1 in 417 $100 $200 2 Wins 1 in 694 $56 $112
1 Win 1 in 149 $28 $56

Payouts for Straight/Box Plays

When you play a Straight/Box, you combine two different play types so you can win more than one prize with the same combination of numbers. If you match the winning numbers in the exact order you will get paid for hitting the Straight and the Box; match the winning numbers in any order and you will still win the Box part of the play.

Payouts for Combo Plays

In a Combo, you play all the possible Straight combinations from the four numbers you select. As all 4-digit combinations have an equal chance of being drawn, the payouts are the same as if you played a standard Straight bet. However, the odds of winning are much improved because you cover multiple combinations.

Base Prizes Fireball Prizes
Play Type Odds Prizes- $0.50 Play Prizes- $1 Play Winning Combinations Odds Prizes- $1 Play Prizes- $2 Play

Payouts for Pair Plays

Each Pair play – Front Pair, Middle Pair, and Back Pair – has the same odds of winning and the same payouts. Fireball payouts differ slightly depending on whether the two numbers in the pair are the same or not.

Base Prizes Fireball Prizes
Play Type Odds Prizes- $0.50 Play Prizes- $1 Play Winning Combinations Odds Prizes- $1 Play Prizes- $2 Play

2 Wins 1 in 125 $14 $28

All or Nothing

Like other draw games, you win prizes by matching your chosen numbers with the winning line – you win the $250,000 top prize by matching all 12 numbers. Unlike other lotteries, however, you can also win the top prize by matching exactly none of the winning numbers.

The table below shows what you can win when playing All or Nothing, as well as the odds of winning each prize:

Numbers Matched Odds of Winning Prize
12 1 in 2,704,156 $250,000
11 1 in 18,779 $500
10 1 in 621 $50
9 1 in 56 $10
8 1 in 11 $2
4 1 in 11 $2
3 1 in 56 $10
2 1 in 621 $50
1 1 in 18,779 $500
0 1 in 2,704,156 $250,000
The overall odds of winning an All or Nothing prize are 1 in 4.5

Ordinarily, every player that wins the top prize will receive a fixed sum of $250,000. However, if there are more than 20 winners of the top prize in any one draw, a total of $5 million will be shared equally between them.

Powerball

You can win a Powerball prize by matching the Powerball alone; you win the jackpot if you match all five of your numbers and the Powerball. The table below shows all the prizes you can win and the odds of winning each one:

Numbers Matched Odds of Winning Prize
5 + Powerball 1 in 292,201,338 Jackpot
5 1 in 11,688,054 $1,000,000
4 + Powerball 1 in 913,129 $50,000

2 + Powerball 1 in 701 $7
1 + Powerball 1 in 92 $4
Powerball 1 in 38 $4
The overall odds of winning a Mega Millions prize are 1 in 24

Power Play Prizes

By adding Power Play to your ticket you have the opportunity to increase any non-jackpot prizes you win by up to 10 times their original value. A Power Play multiplier will be randomly selected alongside every Powerball draw and your prize is increased by that amount.

You can see in the table below how much each Power Play multiplier increases prizes by – the prize for matching five numbers is increased to a maximum of $2 million regardless of which Power Play is selected:

Numbers Matched 2x Power Play 3x Power Play 4x Power Play 5x Power Play 10x Power Play
5 $2,000,000 $2,000,000 $2,000,000 $2,000,000 $2,000,000
4 + Powerball $100,000 $150,000 $200,000 $250,000 $500,000
4 $200 $300 $400 $500 $1,000
3 + Powerball $200 $300 $400 $500 $1,000
3 $14 $21 $28 $35 $70
2 + Powerball $14 $21 $28 $35 $70
1 + Powerball $8 $12 $16 $20 $40
Powerball $8 $12 $16 $20 $40

Note that the 10x Power Play is only available when the jackpot is worth $150 million or less. As a result, the odds of each multiplier appearing change depending on whether the 10x is in play – see the table below for the odds under both circumstances:

Power Play Multiplier Odds With 10x Available Odds Without 10x Available
10x 1 in 43
5x 1 in 21.5 1 in 21
4x 1 in 14.33 1 in 14
3x 1 in 3.31 1 in 3.23
2x 1 in 1.79 1 in 1.75

Mega Millions

The aim of Mega Millions is to match your numbers with the winning ones drawn. Match all of your numbers, including the Mega Ball, to win the jackpot. The table below shows the different Mega Millions prizes you can win and the odds of doing so:

Numbers Matched Odds of Winning Prize
5 + Mega Ball 1 in 302,575,350 Jackpot
5 1 in 12,607,306 $1,000,000
4 + Mega Ball 1 in 931,001 $10,000

2 + Mega Ball 1 in 693 $10
1 + Mega Ball 1 in 89 $4
Mega Ball 1 in 37 $2
The overall odds of winning a Mega Millions prize are 1 in 24

Megaplier Prizes

When you opt in to the Megaplier you have the chance to increase any non-jackpot prizes you win by up to five times their original value. A multiplier is randomly chosen on the night of each Mega Millions draw and prizes increase by that amount.

The table below shows what multipliers are available, what the odds are of each one being selected, and how much they increase prize money by:

Texas Daily 4

Daily 4 is an exciting game where you can play your lucky numbers and be strategic by picking your play style! There are lots of ways to play and win four times a day, Monday through Saturday. The minimum play is $0.50 and there are five play types to choose from.

Daily 4 is the first game with the Pair Play! option. You can play the first two, middle two or last two numbers. For example: 12XX, X12X, XX12.

How to play Daily 4

Playing is easy. Choose four single-digit numbers (or two single-digit numbers for Pair Play) from 0-9 (or use Quick Pick and your numbers will be automatically chosen at random).

Next, mark how you want to play your four single-digit numbers for Straight (Exact Order), Box (Any Order), Straight/Box (Exact/Any Order) and Combo or two single-digit numbers for Front Pair, Mid Pair or Back Pair.

To add another way to win, choose the Sum It Up! option. If the sum of the two one-digit numbers you select (playing any of the Pair play types) or four one-digit numbers is the same as the sum of the four numbers drawn, you win!

Different play types offer you different ways to win. So, 4-Way = four ways to win; 6-Way = six ways to win; 12-Way = 12 ways to win, and 24-Way = 24 ways to win!

Daily 4 ways to win

The Numbers You Select Determine the Ways to Win Example Number Selections Example Winning Combinations
4-Way: Select four one-digit numbers with three like digits = four ways to win. 1112 1112, 1121, 1211, 2111
6-Way: Select four one-digit numbers with two pairs = six ways to win. 1122 1122, 1212, 1221, 2112, 2121, 2211
12-Way: Select four one-digit numbers with two like digits = 12 ways to win. 1123 1123, 1132, 1213, 1231, 1312, 1321, 2113, 2131, 2311, 3112, 3121, 3211
24-Way: Select four one-digit numbers with all different digits = 24 ways to win. 1234 1234, 1243, 1324, 1342, 1423, 1432, 2134, 2143, 2314, 2341, 2413, 2431, 3124, 3142, 3214, 3241, 3412, 3421, 4123, 4132, 4213, 4231, 4312, 4321

Sum It Up!

For another way to win, add the Sum It Up! feature. Here’s how it works: If the sum of the two one-digit numbers you select (playing any of the Pair play types) or four one-digit numbers is the same as the sum of the Daily 4 four numbers drawn, you win!

For example, let’s say your selected Daily 4 numbers are 1-2-3-4, which equals 10.

With Sum It Up!, if the four numbers drawn also add up to 10 (whether they match your numbers or not), then you win. For example, if the numbers drawn are 2-2-1-5, they also equal 10, so you win Sum It Up!

Or let’s take another example. Your numbers (you played the Front Pair) are: 9-9-X-X, which equals 18.

The four numbers drawn are 7-6-4-1, which also equals 18.

You win Sum It Up!

You don’t have to win Daily 4 to win Sum It Up!, and Sum It Up! can be played with any of the play types.
