Hey, I know the slot thing is the ‘big deal’ for most, but I just wanted to say thanks for the batch fix to remove custom thumbnails from CC. I know that some folks take extra time to make those, and it makes me feel a little bad, but honestly, I find they often don’t give me a good representation of the item. So I’ll be happy to get those all back to standard game-generated thumbnails.

Sims 4 Studio — Sims 4 Studio Jackpot (2.7.1.1)

See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sims 4 Studio

Sims 4 Studio Jackpot (2.7.1.1)

There is a new (Windows) version of Sims 4 Studio posted. It includes a fix for the CAS thumbnail list, custom tags for CAS can be set in the Warehouse, and minor bug fixes. Download the new version of Studio HERE.

Thanks to all who reported issues with the previous version. As always, if you run into any problems, please let us know. Hopefully, this will be the last Jackpot version before we can introduce the new beta.

Sims 4 Studio updates for City Living

The new version of Sims 4 Studio (Jackpot) updated for City Living is available HERE.

The Mac version (Appleseed) update will be available ASAP. As this update will include more than just changes for City Living, it will take a bit longer than the Windows version.

Creating standalone CAS items based on CC using Harmony

Hi all, the Sims 4 Studio site now has a tutorial that has been written for creators who are recoloring or re-meshing a CC item and want it to be a standalone item that does not require the original to show up in the game and that will not conflict with the original.

As this has been a persistent source of confusion, I am hopeful that this will be helpful. Please share the link with other creators so that no one has this question anymore. Questions about how Harmony works with CAS and questions about the tutorial are welcome in the thread.

If you are making a recolor of EA content or a brand new mesh cloned on EA content you do not need this tutorial! It should only be used for standalone items cloned from custom content packages.

Create for Sims 4: more tutorials at Studio forums

If you’re interested in learning to create things for Sims 4 Studio forums is the place to go for a comprehensive list of tutorials to get you started. We’re also adding new tutorials for people who would like to create intermediate to advanced projects as well. Two new tutorials have gone up recently:

The first, inspired by a Creator Help question, goes over the ins and outs of how to create a second UV map (uv_1) for a Sims 3 to 4 shoe conversion project. This tutorial will also be useful for those who want to create their own new mesh shoe project because the process is the same.

Don’t let the alien-looking Sim chase you away…the process is not scary.

The second tutorial goes over how to create a Sims 4 lamp that lights up correctly in the game. Useful for new lamp projects as well as conversion projects, this tutorial goes step by illustrated step through the process of working with your mesh in Blender and editing the Light resource in the Warehouse if you want to move it from the original EA position.

In a few straightforward steps you can change your new lamp project from something that looks like a glowing fireball into a lamp that has a tamed light that shines only where you want it to.

It has never been easier to get started making thing for the Sims and I hope anyone interested in getting started or learning more will head on over!

Another patch another batch(fix)

EA’s patch today brought us all a useful dishwasher that, unfortunately, won’t work with custom content counters…not so useful. Sims 4 Studio is updating tonight to add a batch fix that will take care of this problem. The word: dishwashersforall:

There is a tutorial in the Studio Custom Content Management Tutorials forum showing how to use this feature. While you’re there please let us know what other types of custom content management features you would like to see in the Custom Content Management Wish List.

As usual, the batch fix will create a back-up folder containing the original copy of everything that was fixed so you will have the original should anything go wrong. Testing here has, by necessity, been brief but there has been no sign of things going wrong.

Tests in our Studio have not revealed any other problems with the new dishwasher or other elements of the patch. If your mileage varies please let us know.

This update has a few additional things:

– You can make new dishwasher meshes (someone please do this…EA’s dishwashers look like EA’s ovens).

– Further optimization of tuning so Studio can handle the additional load of tuning this patch introduced.

– .png images will import correctly even if not set to 32 bit.

– Additional support for recoloring broken .packages created using other custom content tools that don’t make things to EA standards.

– Slot names in the slot resource now have real names instead of hex numbers because no one really wants to look at hex numbers in a custom content creation tool.

Oh…and don’t forget to stop by and check out the current Studio Challenge. There are great participation prizes (I’ll save the pics for a new post since this one is getting long) and the topic gives a lot of scope for story telling and/or picture taking. We’d love to see you there…join in and have fun.

Happy Modding everyone.

Slots, slots, and more slots (and how you can make your own)

You can never really have enough slots on an object but these new items at Sims 4 Studio will help out a lot. Read to the bottom for the tutorial that shows how to make your own slotted objects using Sims 4 Studio.

EA Cabinet Mod – adds slots to all of EA’s kitchen cabinets by Andrew and orangemittens. The cabinets will still slide up and down and do the tiling thing with full slots.

Murphy Bed with 5 slots by SerenaGarith and orangemittens. Download more from Serena at her Tumblr. Sims will sleep and…er do anything they usually do when the slots are used.

EA Fridge Mod – adds slots to all of EA’s refrigerators. By Andrew and orangemittens. Sims will use the fridge as usual when the slots are used.

No Frills Mission bed with 14 slots Sims use the bed as usual when the slots are used.

Useful Squarely There Loveseat – EA’s loveseat with slots. Sims will sit on the loveseat when the slots are being used.

And if you would like to make your own objects with slots there is a tutorial at Sims 4 Studio that shows you how!

Happy Modding everyone 🙂

Object Mesh Tutorial

Sims 4 Studio (LOVE) is a beta version which allows you to create new mesh .packages for Sims 4. There is a new tutorial showing how to use this feature in the Sims 4 Studio Tutorials forum.

This tutorial shows you how to make a clone of an EA object and then replace the original mesh with your own mesh. The tutorial uses a mapped mesh in .obj format but the same basic method will work whether you use an existing .obj, create/map your new mesh in Blender, or import the mapped mesh using some other format that Blender has addons for.

The .obj used in this tutorial is a Sims 3 —>4 conversion mesh previously meshed in Blender and mapped in Milkshape but you can use any 3D editor to create and map your item. This allows people who prefer editors like 3DS, Milkshape, or Maya to easily create new object mesh.packages for Sims 4 using Sims 4 Studio.

The finishing steps in Blender are very easy and anyone able to make a new mesh in any editor will be able to accomplish them with no problem. If you have questions or comments please post them in the tutorial thread 🙂

Introducing Sims 4 Studio 2.3.0.0 – Flora!

Hi all, the team is excited to release a new beta version of Sims 4 Studio. This version has all the capabilities of Alice and Vogue plus the ability to create floor and terrain paint recolors.

A tutorial showing how to use these new features will be added soon.

As always this is an open beta test and your reports/feedback are welcome and appreciated.

Sims 4 Studio (Appleseed) for Mac update and Jackpot news

Hi all, Sims 4 Studio for Mac is updating with a new version that should make some inroads on the bugs reported so far. Everyone is welcome to join in the beta testing, so if you use a Mac, and you’ve always wanted to try your hand at making CC for the Sims, this is a great time to get started.

Sims 4 Studio (Jackpot) will be moving to the Community Tested version soon. If you’re aware of glaring outstanding problems with this version, please let us know.

Sims 4 Studio: Object Creating

At Studio forums we’ve focused on providing a lot of tutorials to help people get started making things for Sims 4 using Sims 4 Studio. The tutorial section is also where all new features added to the tool are documented. As Sims 4 Studio has improved some of those tutorials have fallen out of date and it’s an ongoing process of rooting out the old and bringing in the new. Here are just a few of the newly added or updated tutorials at Studio.

How to recolor a custom content object that requires the original item in the Mods folder to work – in the past this required the somewhat annoying workaround of making a selective clone that lacked a footprint. Studio has improved this so that now all you have to do is make a normal recolor:

How to fix every type of Sims 4 object shadow – in the past this tutorial was present as several tutorials scattered all over the tutorial section. They’ve all been brought together and the illustrations updated to match Studio’s current appearance so it’s easier than ever to fix all of these issues:

How to make a custom interaction queue thumbnail – rarely does anyone need to change this thumbnail because usually the game generated one serves well. If you need to do so though there is a new tutorial at Studio showing how:

There are a lot more tutorials where those came from and you can easily find what you’re looking for in our newly updated Build/Buy and Tuning Tutorial Index. It has been reorganized by type of project and by level of difficulty so beginners can quickly find the tutorials to get them started and then move on to more advanced projects.

If you’ve been using Studio for awhile it’s still helpful to stop in and browse the tutorial section periodically…all new features are documented there so if you’ve missed something or been absent from the community for awhile you may spot an improvement that is helpful for you.

Studio updates with a makeup batch fix (Windows & Mac)

Hi all, Studio has added a batch fix that will update all CC makeup that currently is not working with the makeup slider system EA recently added.

The batch fix will also allow batch fixed eyeliners to work with the saturation slider and fixed blushes to work with the hue slider. Thank you to Feyona for this excellent idea and for testing the batch fix through several versions.

The pic below shows original blush and eyeliner in the left two images and modified versions of the same items after applying the in-game sliders (including hue and saturation) on the right.

Please note, this batch fix takes time to run, and the more items in the folder you run it on, the longer it will take. If you have a lot of makeup in one folder, you may want to start the batch fix when you’re done using your game for the day (i.e., let it run overnight). Run-time optimization is on the list of things to do.

This image shows how to get to the new makeup batch fix in Studio
