The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday, May 1, is up to $181 million. The cash payout is about $112.1 million, according to lottery officials.

Winning the Powerball jackpot requires matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball number.

Each Wednesday and Saturday, the winning Powerball numbers are drawn at 10:59 p.m. Eastern time, with Powerball results usually posted within five minutes. The drawing is broadcast from the Florida Lottery studio in Tallahassee, Florida.

The winning Powerball numbers for Wednesday, May 1, are 5, 23, 28, 56, 66 and the Powerball of 17.

Powerball tickets cost $2 each.

The smallest prize is $4, and that’s what people win if they match only the Powerball.

The largest Powerball jackpot in history was $1.586 billion, which was shared by winners in California, Florida and Tennessee in January 2016.

Players have a better chance of winning the Powerball jackpot if they let the computer select their numbers, according to lottery officials — about 75 percent of winning tickets over the years had electronically generated numbers.

Winners can choose either to have the full jackpot amount paid out in 30 installments over 29 years, or they can take one lump sum payment that is smaller than the actual total.

Powerball drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET.

Sales cut-off times vary by one to two hours before the drawing, depending on the selling jurisdiction.

To find out where to watch the drawings, click here.

Power Play

Ask for Power Play® with your Powerball purchase!

For an additional $1 per play, the Power Play feature can multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times!

The multiplier number is randomly selected just before each drawing.

The 10X multiplier is only in play when the advertised jackpot annuity is $150 million or less.

The Match 5 prize with Power Play is always $2 million.

Multi-Draw

Play the same set of numbers in multiple drawings!

Select the number of consecutive drawings you want to play in the Multi-Draw or Advance Play section of your play slip or tell the retailer how many drawings you wish to play.

The number of Multi-Draws or Advance Plays available for purchase is dependent on the selling jurisdiction.

How TALL

A Powerball jackpot of $40 million may not seem like much, but ask yourself this – is $40 million really a small amount of money? Is the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. a small building?

If you were to stack $100 bills, take a look at the heights the money would reach at each estimated jackpot amount.
