Maryland Lottery player collects fifth major RaceTrax jackpot

Oct. 11 (UPI) — A Maryland man who collected a $16,160 lottery jackpot is no stranger to lottery officials — it was his fifth major win.

Paul McDonald, 48, of Bowie, told Maryland Lottery officials he only plays the RaceTrax digital horse racing game, and the strategy paid off when a ticket he bought from the Corner Lounge in Upper Marlboro scored a $16,160 jackpot.

He scored the win by placing a Superfecta Box bet with the Bonus multiplier option on the numbers of 1, 4, 7 and 11.

McDonald has hit big RaceTrax jackpots four other times, most recently a $194,188 prize last year that was the third largest in the history of the game.

“My friends all tell me that I need to teach a Racetrax class and show everyone how to play,” McDonald said.

Man wins lottery jackpot by copying numbers from another game

May 3 (UPI) — A Maryland Lottery player won a $224,529 prize using numbers copied from an unusual source — another lottery game.

The Lanham man told Maryland Lottery officials he visited the Seabrook BP store to play 10 games of Racetrax, a simulated horse racing game, and he took inspiration for his horse “numbers” from a Keno monitor in the store.

“I had a set of numbers that I wanted to play when I walked in,” the Prince George’s County landscaper said. “The first thing I saw, though, was their Keno monitor with the numbers 8, 9, 10 and 11 on it. They just spoke to me.”

The man used the numbers to place a Superfecta bet on 10 games and discovered when he checked the numbers later in the day that his gamble had paid off in a big way.

“When I saw those four numbers, my heart started pounding. I pulled out my tickets to make sure that I’d really played them. I had!” he said. “I jumped out of the truck and shouted ‘Halleluia!'”

The winner’s $224,529 prize was the second-largest in the history of the Maryland Lottery game, officials said.

“I’ve had some setbacks recently, work and otherwise. This win really is a blessing. I’ll be able to set some things straight and put money back into my business, get some new equipment I’ve needed,” he said.
