Lucky 22

For as long as I can remember, my lucky number has always been 22. Maybe it’s because of the roulette wheel scene in Casablanca, in which Rick tells the poor Romanian traveler to keep betting on 22 and lets the young man win enough for his exit visas. Or maybe it’s because when I was little, I rooted for Sammy White, the Red Sox catcher who wore number 22. Or maybe because I loved Joseph Heller’s novel, Catch-22.

Now it takes on new meaning as this Saturday, April 5, marks our 22nd anniversary. I had planned on opening this improbable venture on Monday, April 6, but someone knocked on the door on April 5 and asked, “Are you open for business?” I opened the door … and I guess we were open.

This weekend we will celebrate 22 years of mustard mayhem here in Middleton with song, snacks, and specials. If you’ve been following us over the years, you know that it’s not always been easy. The actual museum split off from the business in 2010 as a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Please consider a $22 tax-deductible donation to the National Mustard Museum as your way of saying “Happy Anniversary” so we can keep the yellow dream flowing. LUCKY22.

You can also join in the celebration by ordering our Man Bites Dog Gift box, regularly $27.95. for just $22. Or the classic The Mustard Book by Man & Wier, regularly $35, for just $22.
