This Canadian Janitor Wants To Keep His Job Even After His $7 Million Lottery Win
A dream come true!
Every week, many people play the lottery with hopes of winning. While the majority of Canadians typically only ever see a free play or two, there is always that one lucky person here and there that wins big. The latest winner is a Surrey janitor who had a $7 million lottery win – and despite his newfound riches, he isn’t going to quit his job.
Vito Halasan moved to Canada from the Philippines around 10 years ago. He is a resident of Surrey, British Columbia. While he may seem like a regular guy with a job as a janitor, he is now the proud owner of a much richer bank account through a whopping $7 million Lotto 6/49 win.
According to a press release sent to Narcity by BCLC, Halasan is doing things a little differently. Unlike other lottery winners, Halasan plans on keeping and not quitting the janitor position he knows and loves. This sweet story will definitely warm your heart.
Halasan was in shock when he was able to match all six numbers on his Lotto 6/49 ticket from April 27, 2019. Not only did he match all the numbers, but he did it just a few days after celebrating his 58th birthday.
“I remember scanning my ticket and seeing all these numbers,” says Halasan in the release. “I have really blurry vision so I had to hold the ticket right up to my face. I couldn’t believe it.”
While still under the adrenaline rush, Halasan called his daughter to tell her what just happened. His daughter recalls being sat down at the table while her father whispered “really quietly” that he has just won $7 million.
“I didn’t believe him. We had to check online several times,” she said.
This win means a lot to Halasan, who is a grandfather. Now, with three kids and four grandchildren, he plans on giving his family the life they dreamed of ever since they moved to Canada from the Philippines in 2009.
“I buy lottery tickets so I can dream,” Halasan says. “I dream of being able to take care of my kids and make their future better.
Now, Halasan plans on buying a nice house for his children and grandchildren. While he doesn’t intend on quitting his janitor position, he is considering reducing his hours.A dream come true!
