Limited Menu – Desert Room
The Desert Room has a fabulous breakfast menu, but limited offerings otherwise. Jackpot overall has limited choices for dining, but you can count on the Desert Room for decent, albeit average food. I ordered a portabello mushroom sarnie, which was OK, but the waffle fries were soggy. My husband had a hot beef sarnie which was quite good, but the mashed potatoes were cold and the gravy congealed. Average. . . at best. The outstanding service however makes a difference and our server was an absolute sweetheart.

Wasn’t very organized the night we had dinner. Two tables that came in after us were waited on and served before they finally served us. The food was fair, chicken was undercooked. You’re kind of a captive clientele. Not much to choose from around there. Ya get what you get.

Stopped by after I found myself in town from exploring the area. Seating and food was fast. Above average fare – plentiful and tasty. I had the build-it-yourself breakfast – something from this column and something from that column. Zero complaints, would certainly go back.

This food is wonderful. We had the chowder soup, the chili, a spinach salad and a patty melt. The wait staff, Alfredo & Blanca, were all you could ask for, well-trained and friendly. We had traveled from Las Vegas, going toward Idaho Falls, on US 93, the highway from hell. It is beautiful, but a dangerous zombie-apocalypse of insane deer darting into the road in front of your vehicle. The first one slows you down so the second one can get a good shot at your bumper. There are so many deer and elk warning signs, red flags and flashing lights warning you about suicidal deer that you begin to feel like its the twilight zone, until one gets you (which happened to us, goodbye bumper, hello body work!). We had spent the night in Ely where we were priced gouged and had an awful breakfast (avoid the La Quinta). We drove through Agua Caliente where you feel like its worse than any barrio in Tijuana. Then, you drive into Jackpot, and really deserve the wonderful food and friendly service. My dad used to play Black Jack here, and he always loved it. Be sure to stop, this is an oasis in the middle of bad food, price gouging, and psychotic wildlife. If you make it this far up Highway 93, Cactus Jack’s makes it all worth while. Thanks, guys!
