MERIDIAN – Jacob Christopherson admits he “freaked out” when he learned he was holding the winning ticket for the Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle.

The Meridian man said he was trying to win one of the smaller prizes offered by the Raffle when he bought his tickets.

“I had been buying tickets around the 25000th tickets, trying to win one of the $1,000 prizes. I stopped in the Maverik by my mom’s house and just bought one to see what the current ticket number was,” said Christopherson. “It was just a random purchase.”

That random purchased turned out to be the top prize winner.

“I called my mom, I called my girlfriend, I was definitely freaking out, but in a good way,” said Christopherson. “I told them I had the $1 million winner, but then had them double check and write the numbers down, too. I wanted to be sure. I’m still shaking. I don’t believe it. People don’t believe me that I won.”

Christopherson took the winning ticket number 087162 to the Idaho Lottery offices in Boise for payment Monday morning.

The winning ticket was purchased from Maverik at Locust Grove and McMillan roads in Meridian. That’s where Idaho Lottery officials held a press conference this afternoon to announce Raffle winner. It marks the fifth time in the past years that the top prize winner was sold at a Maverik store.

Christopherson said he plans to invest his winnings and use some to pursue his passion for playing golf.

According to the Idaho Lottery, both $10,000 winning tickets were also sold locally. One was sold in Ada County, and the other was sold in Canyon County, with winning numbers 145473 and 164503. Those prizes have not yet been claimed.

Idaho Lottery Director Jeff Anderson encouraged players to double-check their tickets to ensure they’re not tossing away a big prize.

“There are over 6,100 prize winning tickets in this year’s Raffle. We strongly encourage everyone who played the Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle to check their tickets carefully for winners,” Anderson said in a release. “All players holding Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle tickets should sign the back of them and keep them in a safe place until claiming their prize.”

Raffle winners have 180 days from the New Year’s Eve draw to produce the winning ticket and claim their prize.

The $1 million prize, the two $10,000 prizes, and the $1,000 prizes must be claimed at Idaho Lottery headquarters in Boise.
