Girls on the run race results
The Virtual 5k Your Way aims to celebrate the unstoppable strength, resiliency, and confidence of each and every girl in our program, as well as our entire Girls on the Run community. Our GOTR teams will be supporting each other as they complete their 5ks individually, and you can show your support by joining them in reaching this goal!
From November 20 to 29, complete the Virtual 5k Your Way on your own time and in your own place, such as your living room, your neighborhood, or a nearby park – whatever is safe for you! You can complete a 5k or any other physical activity of your choosing.
What is a virtual 5k?
This will be a 5k (3.1 miles) that you complete any time from November 20 to 29, on your own. You choose the time and place (following social distancing guidelines) to walk, run or roll a 5k – or do another physical activity of your choice.
How much does it cost to register?
Registration is free and open to all! When you sign up, you will receive a virtual 5k packet with fun resources to support you along the way, including a printable bib and finisher’s certificate, special GOTR playlist, Physical Activity Cards, and more.
All participants will have exclusive access to our exciting 5k week events, including two complimentary live workout sessions led by Athleta Studio instructors:
HIIT Workout with Hannah DelMonte – Saturday, November 21, 10:15 – 11 am
Virtual Dance Party with Jessie Diaz-Herrera – Saturday, November 28, 10 – 10:45 am
Participants will also receive a complimentary day pass to Athleta Studio’s Video on Demand library of fitness and wellness classes!
You can also upgrade to our Sparkle participant level and receive a 5k medal, vintage 5k shirt, GOTR buff, and your choice of a GOTR water bottle or string backpack for a fee of $50, representing the cost of a GOTR at Home activity kit for one girl. All funds from Virtual 5k donations and merchandise sales will ensure we continue to bring our program to all girls across New York City, regardless of financial need.
We will also be sharing additional virtual resources at gotrnyc.org/virtual5kresources.
Are there alternatives to completing a 5k run?
Yes! Just like we teach our girls, the goal is to go at your happy pace and keep moving forward. You can complete any distance you’d like or another physical activity, such as biking, yoga, or dancing.
If social distancing guidelines or other challenges prevent you from hitting the pavement, we have also created GOTR Physical Activity Cards that can be completed in the comfort of your own home! These cards include fun physical activity challenges that celebrate the joy of movement and highlight some of the important lessons that girls learn in our program. When you register, you will receive a digital download of the Physical Activity Cards in your confirmation email.
Can anyone sign up to participate?
Yes—the Virtual 5k Your Way is open to the public! We invite our girls, families, coaches, volunteers, and supporters to sign up, and encourage you to invite your friends to join you in completing this fun challenge.
We will celebrate everyone’s achievements by posting pictures, quotes, and stories sent in by you! If you are able, please share your success by emailing pictures to [email protected], posting on social media using #GOTRNYC5k, or tagging us on Instagram.
How can I get my network involved?
We’re inviting corporate and community groups to show up strong for our girls by participating in our Virtual 5k Cheer Squad Challenge! You can register together as a team, with special incentives along the way for teams that have the most participants sign up. If your company, community group, or group of friends is interested in joining the challenge, email us at [email protected]
You can check out teams that have already registered 10 or more participants here!
I’m excited to participate! How else can I support Girls on the Run NYC?
As someone who shares our commitment to the health and wellbeing of girls, we invite you to consider setting up a fundraiser to ensure that our life-changing programs will be able to continue now and in the future. Setting up a fundraiser takes only a few minutes – but your support today and during our Virtual 5k Your Way will create impacts that last a lifetime. Fundraisers can be set at whatever amount feels meaningful to you – and our team will work with you to make sure that you have all the tools you need to make it fun, effective, and successful, including our Fundraising Toolkit!

My GOTR graduate came in 2 nd as a Freshman at the Denver Prep League meet and is going on to State this year! Thanks for the excellent start for her! She struggled in school and GOTR gave her the confidence she needed to advocate for herself and get through a tough time. I feel quite indebted.
We are excited to have Girls on the Run at Greenwood again this year! I have seen firsthand the power of this program upon our girls and enjoy running with them each week and for the 5K!
I LOVE this program!! My daughter is learning so much and her sense of self is growing! I was actually surprised that the program boosted the girls confidence in themselves. I heard about the program through a dietician at the doctors office and my daughter signed up herself. Thank you for this program and we will be supporting this program forever!
“>My daughter will be 4th grade next year at Twain. My girls (we have 5 kids and 3 of them are girls) have participated in GOTR for the past 3 years. 2 years at Samuels in DPS and 1 year at Twain. I really love this program because it helps the girls realize you don’t have to be a super model etc to move your body and have a healthy relationship with your body. As my oldest enters 8th grade, I see how these lessons from GOTR have impacted her and her body image! Such valuable lessons for our g…
Hello, I am a proud parent of Olivia, who attends Molholm Elementary in Jeffco public schools, and also has been in the program for 2 years. I want to thank this organization for the great moral that my daughter has taken away from the program. I have told everyone to donate, and am willing to volunteer anytime. Due to Girls on the Run, Olivia has been running in other 5K races, has been featured in the Denver Post. The other fellow classmates have seen how this program promotes self-respect and…
My three year experience [as a coach] was one of the most lasting and exciting memories I have from college. As a girl, I did not have GOTR available where I grew up so being a coach was my first experience with the program. I cannot describe how happy and fulfilling coaching for GOTR was for me and I wanted to give back when I was able.
We had a great season at DLS. We had our banquet last Thursday and the girls and parents were so thankful for the program. One mom shared with me that the program “gave my daughter the words to express herself.” She also said, “my daughter says she’s excited because she’s learning to like herself.” She shared this insight with tears of gratitude in her eyes!
Just wanted to give thanks for the program and volunteers that made it possible for my child to shine even brighter:) I have noticed a significant positive change in my girl and am very grateful for the help! I hope to participate more in the future with this awesome movement! Thanks so much!
I just wanted to drop you all a note to thank you for another wonderful GOTR season! Erica just loves this program… As her mom, I’ve loved seeing her confidence and ability with running grow, but also recognize how she’s learning how to be a better friend and person. Thanks for bringing your amazing program to Slavens!
