Due to coronavirus threat, winnings can no longer be claimed at Florida Lottery offices

The games are continuing, but people who win $600 or more from the Florida Lottery will have to claim their winnings by mail or wait for offices around the state to reopen.

As of Monday, Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee and its nine district offices around the state are closed to the public, “to help protect our employees and players during the COVID-19 outbreak,” the agency announced.

People with a prize-winning lottery ticket that exceeds $600 can either mail them to a lottery office to make their claim or wait the the state offices to reopen.

Additionally, the lottery has extended all ticket claim deadlines by 90 days — giving players the option to hold on to winning tickets and wait to claim their prizes when the lottery offices reopen.

Prizes of $599 and below can still be claimed at any authorized Florida Lottery retailer; prizes of $600 to $250,000 can be mailed to Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee or mailed to the nearest district office; and prizes about $250,000 can be mailed to Florida Lottery Headquarters.

The Florida Lottery has announced that people who win prizes above the threshold amount to claim at lottery retailers can no longer claim their prizes at the headquarters in Tallahassee or the several district offices around the state because of the coronavirus threat.

Florida Lottery expands claim by appointment options for players

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Lottery is expanding options for players to claim their winnings by appointment.

According to a press release, players with prizes worth $600 or more can schedule appointments to file claims at Florida Lottery Headquarters and district offices. Before, that was only an option for prizes worth $5,000 or greater.

Players can schedule claim appointments through the lottery’s website here.

Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST. The first hour of each day is reserved for players 65 and older, and those with serious underlying medical conditions.

Secure drop boxes are also available inside each district office for players to drop off winning tickets with a completed winner claim form and ID. The drop boxes are accessible Monday through Friday.

In following local county and/or city ordinances, players must wear a face covering and submit to a mandatory health screening in accordance with DOH and CDC guidelines prior to entering a Lottery office.

In an effort to limit the number of people in an office at one time, players are also asked to attend their claim appointment by themselves unless they require the assistance of another person for medical reasons.
