The Son Of Marriott’s President Won A $107 Million Powerball Jackpot
The 25-year-old son of Marriott Inc. president Robert J. McCarthy–who made $1.2 million in 2009–was the winner of July’s Mega Millions Jackpot, according to the Powerball website (via Gawker).
The total jackpot? $107 million.
Brian McCarthy’s grandmother, who was with him when he found out, offered to make him a grilled cheese sandwich to celebrate his big win (we aren’t kidding).
Instead of taking the full amount in 26 annual payments, he opted for a lump sum, and walked away with $68.4 million.
According to the Fairfax Times, this wasn’t the first time McCarthy got lucky in the lottery. He’s twice won $1,000 on scratch-off tickets.
McCarthy, who grew up in Virginia and graduated from Penn State in 2009, has already donated around $50,000 of his winnings to charity.
