The Wildest Party You Can Go To On A Sunday Night In New York
Forget all that nonsense.
The Standard Hotel has the antidote to that misery that will send you into the week guns blazing. On Sunday nights, groups of dedicated revelers invade the Standard Grill’s fine dining room, dance on tables, scream ‘MORE BALLS” and play drunken games of Bingo that would make every last member of your Auntie’s church group turn bright red.
It’s called ‘Not Your Standard Bingo.’
Joey Jalleo, The Standard’s Director of Special Projects, described the event as a “fun little environment for our guests.” He was being modest. The game starts around 11:00 p.m., but to get a seat, show up early because the house will be packed. Every week the game takes on a different theme (this week’s was ‘Spring Break’) — they’ve also had a Sesame Street theme, and even an Olympic themed party hosted by professional figure skater Johnny Weir.
This is the kind of event that thrives at The Standard. “We’re inclusive rather than exclusive,” said Jalleo. “We want to be an important addition to a local neighborhood. we’re not a cookie cutter hotel.”
That’s obvious. The New York location, like all The Standards around the country, has successfully built a culture for itself. The DJs invited to play there, the lecturers that speak there, the games and fun are all packaged together on the hotel’s blog, Standard Culture. It’s not just a way for the hotel to brand itself, it’s also a way for anyone to get a peek inside The Standard and feel its vibrant energy —even on Sunday night.
